This reappointment is a measure to ensure policy alignment in areas that require long-term and integrated management, such as urban planning and public architecture. It is also regarded as a case in which a basic local government has actively utilized a private expert system to secure both expertise and consistency in urban space policy.
Chief Planner Professor Lee Jeseon has served as chief planner for the past two years, and this renewed appointment is intended to strengthen the continuity and expertise of Goyang City's urban space policies across the entire city, as well as to solidify the integrated planning function for public architecture and major urban projects.
Taking this reappointment as an opportunity, the city plans to maintain the direction of urban planning and public architecture that it has pursued so far, and to accelerate the creation of a harmonious urban space that citizens can tangibly experience through strategic linkages between policies and projects.
Professor Lee Jeseon, whose expertise in urban planning and public architecture has been widely recognized, was the first person to be appointed as Goyang City Chief Planner. In addition to Goyang City, he has also actively contributed his expertise in public architecture and urban space policy design and coordination through his service on urban planning committees and architectural committees of various local governments. In academia, he has consistently carried out research and educational activities in areas such as urban design, spatial policy, and securing policy alignment.
Meanwhile, as part of the "Goyang City Private Experts" system, the city operates a Chief Planning Group consisting of one chief planner and fourteen public planners.
The chief planner oversees and coordinates projects related to architecture, public facilities, and urban spaces throughout Goyang City, and plays a strategic role in ensuring the consistency and efficiency of projects by connecting administrative departments, designers, and citizens. Working together with the chief planner, public planners support the maintenance of planning consistency throughout the planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases of individual projects.
Mayor Lee Donghwan stated, "We will make every effort to create an efficient and pleasant urban space by fully leveraging the expertise of the chief planner and public planners and linking major urban projects with various public architecture projects."
