Known for her strict frugality...once commended by the Blue House
"Even when three of us go, she insists on ordering just one"
Actor Jeon Wonju was shown insisting on a "one drink for three people" rule at a cafe. Some see this as a sign that the habit of frugality is deeply ingrained in her, while others point out that such excessive penny-pinching does not come across entirely positively.
In a video uploaded on the YouTube channel "Jeon Wonju-in-gong" on the 24th, Jeon Wonju's daughter-in-law said, "Even when my husband, I, and my mother-in-law, the three of us, go to a cafe, she insists on ordering only one drink," adding, "These days, one drink per person is the norm, but even when we suggest ordering two drinks, she tells us to order just one."
That day, Jeon Wonju went to a cafe with her daughter-in-law and ordered a single latte. Her daughter-in-law took a paper cup out of her bag and they shared the drink. When the production staff looked taken aback, Jeon Wonju laughed it off, saying, "She's even more extreme than I am."
Jeon Wonju is known for her thorough frugality in everyday life. She once shared an anecdote about receiving a savings award commendation at the Blue House, and she also talked about reusing shooting scripts and toilet paper. She even posted a gas bill showing that, because she hardly ever turned on the boiler in the middle of winter, her city gas charge was only 1,370 won. It is known that she has accumulated considerable assets through investments in stocks and gold, and by emphasizing the principle of long-term investment, she has earned the nickname "Jeonwon Buffett."
Reactions to the cafe scene were divided. Some internet users defended her, saying, "Regardless of the size of her assets, her practice of frugality sets a good example in this era of high prices." On the other hand, others argued that "three people ordering only one drink can become a burden for small business owners."
