"They're Serving Coffee in Buckets"...1.4-Liter Extra-Large Coffee Gains Popularity at Dunkin' in the U.S.

1.4-Liter Coffee Goes Viral on Social Media
Some Users Say, "Please Launch It in Our Area Too"

Dunkin', a coffee and donut specialty brand, is drawing attention for test-selling an extra-large coffee with a capacity of about 1.4 liters at some of its U.S. stores.

According to Newsweek and other local media on the 24th (local time), Dunkin' recently introduced 48-ounce (about 1.4 liters) large-size beverages at select stores in U.S. states including Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The drinks are effectively served in a "bucket," far exceeding the size of its existing beverage options.

The drink is served in a plastic bucket-style container with a handle, lid, and long straw, and is designed exclusively for cold beverages. Prices start at 8.89 dollars (about 12,900 won) for coffee and 9.49 dollars (about 13,500 won) for refresher drinks.

Dunkin' has not separately promoted this menu item through its official online channels or social media (SNS), but related posts have spread online, generating word-of-mouth among consumers. Some stores are already reported to be sold out. Two locations in New Hampshire told The New York Times (NYT), "We are currently sold out and have no plans to restock for the time being."

On social media, calls have continued for a wider rollout. Online users reacted by saying, "Please release it in Fort Wayne, Indiana," and "I wish we had it in Philadelphia too." Others, however, voiced concerns about the price and health issues. One user pointed out, "For the price of one 48-ounce bucket, you can buy two 32-ounce iced coffees," while another said, "I'm curious how much sugar and caffeine it contains," adding, "It probably isn't good for your health."

Meanwhile, the trend for oversized drinks is said to have started last year at some independent cafes in the United States. The New York Times reported last year that "cafes, leaning into an exaggerated concept, are serving iced coffee and lattes in 34-ounce (about 1 liter) buckets." Dunkin' appears to have joined this trend by offering even larger bucket-sized beverages.
