Joint Public-Private Safety Inspections of Disaster-Vulnerable Facilities and Construction Sites
Seo-gu District in Gwangju Metropolitan City is making every effort to prevent safety accidents during the thawing period.
Seo-gu will form a joint public-private inspection team with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and the Safety Management Advisory Group until April, and carry out safety inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities and construction sites where there is a high risk of safety accidents due to weakened ground conditions.
Seo-gu plans to strengthen an on-site, preemptive safety management system by focusing on 39 sites, including cultural heritage, retaining walls, and steep slopes, to check whether safety management plans have been established and implemented, whether ground subsidence and cracks have occurred, the condition of slopes, structural safety, and the status of on-site management.
Depending on the inspection results, Seo-gu will immediately correct minor issues on site, while facilities where serious risk factors are identified will be subject to remedial measures followed by continuous management and inspections.
The district will also operate a "Resident Inspection Request System," under which residents can directly report risk factors. Until March 31, on-site inspections will be conducted for facilities related to disasters and accidents during the thawing period that are reported through the Safety E-Report System or local administrative welfare centers, and the results will be communicated to the applicants.
In addition, a "Pothole Maintenance Team" dedicated to potholes will be organized to quickly repair potholes on major roads within the district, and road surfaces will be fully repaved on severely deteriorated sections such as Pungseojwa-u-ro, Guseong-ro, Yeomhwa-ro, and Ssanghak-ro to improve road safety.
Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang said, "During the thawing period, the ground becomes weak, and even small cracks can lead to major accidents, so pre-inspections and on-site management are more important than anything else," adding, "We will continue to carry out preemptive safety inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities and construction sites."
