New Ganeung Station Near CRC Becomes More Likely
Uijeongbu City Aims to Begin Construction in 2027

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recently approved the project to move forward following the signing of a three-party agreement among Uijeongbu City, the National Railroad Authority, and Korea Railroad Corporation, thereby establishing the legal and administrative basis for carrying out subsequent administrative procedures.

This approval is a follow-up measure based on the feasibility review results released by the National Railroad Authority at the end of December last year, and is meaningful in that it officially put in place a cooperative framework among the relevant agencies for promoting the project.

Going forward, procedures related to the construction of the new station will proceed sequentially, including securing the budget, signing consignment and entrustment agreements with relevant agencies, and obtaining approval from the city council. In addition, the city plans to pursue the project by comprehensively taking into account factors such as the timing of new transport demand caused by changes in the surrounding urban environment, including the development of the CRC area, and the results of detailed safety inspections on the trains to be operated.

An Uijeongbu City official said, "With the goal of starting construction in 2027, we plan to focus this year on implementing administrative procedures necessary to push the project forward, including signing consignment and entrustment agreements with relevant agencies and preparing for investment reviews to reflect the project in the city budget."
