City to Conduct Guidance and Inspections of Individual Sewage Treatment Facilities from March to May

Donghae City in Gangwon Province announced on February 25 that it will conduct guidance and inspections of individual sewage treatment facilities for the first half of 2026 from March to May. During this first-half guidance and inspection period, the city plans to carry out intensive inspections focusing on large-scale individual sewage treatment facilities with a daily treatment capacity of 50 tons or more.

Currently, there are a total of 160 individual sewage treatment facilities (wastewater treatment facilities) with a daily treatment capacity of 50 tons or more in operation within Donghae City. Through this inspection, the city intends to systematically manage the actual conditions of facility operation and create a pleasant and clean urban environment by ensuring stable sewage treatment.

The main items of guidance and inspection, in accordance with the Sewerage Act and the Regulations on Integrated Guidance and Inspection of Facilities Emitting Environmental Pollutants, include whether wastewater treatment facilities are operating normally, whether internal cleaning is being carried out, whether operational and management standards are being observed, and whether the quality standards for effluent are being met.

For minor issues found to be due to inadequate management, the city will take immediate corrective measures. For serious violations, such as failing to operate individual sewage treatment facilities without justifiable reasons, it plans to impose fines and take administrative measures in parallel in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Sewerage Act.

Park Jongju, head of the Water and Sewerage Office, said, "When individual sewage treatment facilities are properly installed and stably operated and managed, we can preserve the water quality of public water bodies and create a pleasant living environment," and called for active interest and cooperation from citizens so that individual sewage treatment facilities can be operated appropriately.
