Daejeon City will host the "18th Public Design Contest" with the theme "Daejeon, a City to Stay In," aiming to enhance the dignity of the city through public design created with direct participation from citizens.

This contest will be run with six designated tasks and an open theme so that a wide range of citizen ideas can be reflected in actual municipal administration.

The six designated tasks, selected to reflect Daejeon’s major current issues, are: the "Emptying the City" project at the west plaza of Daejeon Station; BI development for Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 (tram); creation of a specialized symbolic streetscape along the tram route; smart nightscape design; safe design for spaces under bridge piers and inside underpasses; and an activation design for the Soje-dong caf? street.

The contest is divided into three categories: facility design, spatial design, and visual design. Facility design focuses on proposals for facilities that add convenience and benefits for citizens, while spatial design covers the creation of spaces where citizens can gather, communicate, and enjoy themselves.

Visual design targets works that express Daejeon’s identity using posters, BI, packages, UX/UI, and similar media.

Anyone interested in public design may participate in the contest. Following the announcement on February 25, submissions will be accepted from June 12 to June 22 and must be submitted online through the Daejeon Metropolitan City Public Design Contest website.

Award-winning works will be announced on the website in July after evaluation by experts. The grand prize winner will receive 5 million won, and the total prize pool will be 15 million won. The winning entries will later be released to the public through the publication of a collection and through exhibitions.

Further details can be found on the Public Design Contest website, and additional inquiries should be directed to the Luxury Design Officer of Daejeon City.
