"Cheesecake Hit the Mark" Samlip Expands Costco U.S. Supply Ninefold...Adds 5 Million Packs

Sold Out Within 3 Weeks of Launch at Costco in the U.S.
Expanded to 300 Costco Stores Nationwide
Plans to Export an Additional 10 Million Packs by July

Samlip announced on the 25th that its "Samlip Cheesecake" sold out its initial batch of 560,000 packs within three weeks of entering Costco stores in the western United States, and that sales have since been expanded to Costco locations nationwide. The company said its differentiated strategy, centered on a K-style manufacturing method, has been well received by local consumers.

In September last year, Samlip introduced its cheesecake at around 100 Costco stores in the western United States, including San Francisco, Los Angeles (LA), and San Diego, marking the first time a Korean bakery product had been launched at Costco in the U.S. Since sales began, an average of 27,000 packs per day were sold over three weeks, leading to an early sellout of the initial volume.

Accordingly, from November, Samlip sharply increased production and supplied a second batch of about 5 million packs to approximately 300 Costco stores across the United States. This represents a ninefold increase compared with the initial batch. The second batch is maintaining a stable sales trend, with average sales per store more than doubling compared with the initial launch. Samlip plans to export an additional 10 million packs by July this year.

The company cited its manufacturing method as the core of the product's competitiveness. Samlip Cheesecake uses a proprietary technique that combines the Western "baking" method with the Eastern "steaming" method, delivering a rich cream cheese flavor and a moist texture. The company analyzes that this texture, which is differentiated from traditional American desserts, has captivated local consumers' palates.

In fact, at Costco stores in the Midwest and East, including Chicago and Detroit, Samlip Cheesecake has at times ranked among the top weekly sellers across all food categories. On local social networking services (SNS), positive comments such as "The soft texture is impressive" and "It is great as a snack for children" continue to appear.

Samlip Cheesecake is currently exported to 15 countries, including Vietnam and the Middle East. In Vietnam, it is sold through major distribution channels such as WinMart and Circle K, while in the Middle East it has been stocked by Carrefour, LuLu Hypermarket, and Monoprix. Supply has also begun to Frescho, a major supermarket chain in Canada. Overseas sales in the second half of last year were tallied as having increased by more than 120% compared with the same period a year earlier.

Since 2024, Samlip has been selling "Samlip Yakgwa" at more than 200 Costco stores across the United States. In Japan, the company has expanded its distribution network to all 620 Don Quijote stores, as well as Aeon Cafe Lante and Summit. In the first half of this year, it plans to additionally launch "Mini Boreumdal" at Costco stores throughout the United States.

A Samlip representative said, "As bakery brands are enhancing the status of K-desserts through global stores, Samlip is taking direct aim at the U.S. large-scale retail market and creating another K-bakery syndrome," adding, "Going forward, we will leverage Samlip's mass-produced bread manufacturing know-how to secure high accessibility and quality competitiveness in the retail market and solidify our global presence."
