The 5 millionth commemorative vehicle is the All-New Telluride Hybrid model, which is the first hybrid vehicle produced in the state of Georgia. The commemorative event was attended by Governor Brian Kemp, local government officials, community leaders, and employees, who celebrated the achievements of Kia Georgia.
Since starting production in 2009, Kia Georgia has grown into a leading local employer and has established itself as a key production base in the automotive industry of the southeastern United States.
In particular, the Telluride produced at the West Point plant is a strategic model developed based on North American consumer needs and U.S. road conditions, and it is a model that symbolizes Kia's growth in the U.S. market. The first-generation Telluride swept major awards in the North American market, including 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, World Car of the Year, and MotorTrend SUV of the Year, thereby elevating the brand's status.
Yoon Seung-kyu, President of Kia North America and President & CEO of Kia America, said, "Kia Georgia is the only plant in the world that produces the Telluride, and the start of this production run carries significance beyond the mere launch of a new vehicle," adding, "By reaching 5 million units in production and building the first hybrid vehicle in the state of Georgia, we have clearly demonstrated Kia's technological progress and future strategic direction."
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said, "Since its launch in 2019, the Telluride has been produced exclusively in Georgia and has become one of the most successful models in Kia's lineup," adding, "This achievement is the result of a close partnership between the local community and the state government."
Stuart Countess, President & CEO of Kia Georgia, said, "The production of 5 million vehicles is the result of the dedication and teamwork of our employees," adding, "With the addition of hybrid models to our internal combustion engine and electric vehicle production, the flexibility and technological capabilities of the plant have once again been proven." He added, "I take great pride in the fact that we are building a new future together here in West Point."
