Gyeonggi Province Launches Proactive Safety Inspections of Railway Construction Sites Ahead of Spring Thaw Gyeonggi-do is conducting proactive safety inspections of railway construction sites across the province ahead of the thaw season. Provided by Gyeonggi-do.

The province announced on the 25th that it has established the "2026 Spring Thaw Safety Management Inspection Plan" and will conduct on-site inspections on a total of six construction sections: three sections of the Okjeong-Pocheon Line and three sections of the Dobongsan-Okjeong Line.

The spring thaw is a period when the ground weakens and the risk of structural deformation increases, making systematic management of construction sites essential. In response, the province plans to block seasonal risk factors such as ground subsidence and slope collapse in advance, thereby minimizing any safety blind spots in the spring.

The inspections will focus on areas vulnerable during the spring thaw, including cut slopes, embankments, temporary structures, retaining walls, and drainage facilities. In addition to inspecting the safety of facilities and structures, the province will also check the preparation and management status of safety management plans. In particular, railway technical advisory committee members for each field and underground safety monitors will participate to closely examine sections at risk of ground subsidence, the safety conditions of underground excavation areas, and the implementation of slope protection measures, with the aim of proactively eliminating potential accidents.

Park Youngshin, Head of Railway Construction at Gyeonggi Province, said, "During the spring thaw, even small cracks can lead to major accidents, which makes preemptive action more important than anything else," adding, "Through on-site, prevention-focused inspections, we will systematically manage risk factors and further strengthen the foundation for constant safety management at railway construction sites, creating construction environments where residents of the province can feel safe."
