Samcheok-si Supports Return-to-Farm and Rural Settlement with "Experience Life in Gangwon"... Applications Open from March 3 Return-to-Farm and Rural Settlement Program Guide. Provided by Samcheok-si

"Experience Life in Gangwon" is part of Samcheok-si's 2026 program to attract and support return-to-farm and rural settlers. It helps people preparing to return to farming or move to rural areas understand rural life and experience farming by allowing them to live for a certain period in the area of their choice. Participants receive support such as temporary housing and training expenses, and take part in educational programs on understanding rural communities, hands-on farming practice, and exchange activities with local residents.

The program will be run in Sanyang Village in Wondeok-eup, Samcheok-si. A total of seven people from five urban households hoping to return to farming will join a crop-cultivation-focused program from April 1 to June 30, for three months. The application period is from March 3 to March 13, 2026.

Participants will take part in cultivating major crops such as potatoes and corn, as well as various other farming experiences, and will gain on-site experience and settlement information through meetings with leading farms and predecessors who have already returned to farming or rural areas. They will also complete basic farming skills training for new farmers.

The operator of Sanyang Village, which won the grand prize in last year's Experience Life in Gangwon program, said, "Although the period is short, I feel rewarded because the participation of the trainees has brought new vitality to the village," adding, "This year as well, we will actively support prospective return-to-farm and rural settlers so that they can establish themselves here in a stable way."

An official from Samcheok-si said, "We will actively support differentiated programs so that urban residents with diverse needs and goals can move into rural areas, which are losing vitality due to population decline and aging, and provide them with new driving forces."

An official from the Samcheok-si Return-to-Farm and Rural Settlement Support Center said, "We will strive to provide the information and services needed from the preparation stage for returning to farming or moving to rural areas through to the actual relocation, so that participants can achieve stable settlement."
