Myung Jaesung, a preliminary candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea for the Goyang special mayoralty in Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 24th that he had held a policy meeting with the Goyang City Social Welfare Solidarity on the 23rd.

The policy meeting, held that day at the office of the Social Welfare Solidarity in Ilsan 1-dong, was attended by Bosan, chief monk of Gilsangsa Temple in Goyang and chairman of the Goyang City Social Welfare Council, among others. The session was conducted in a format where practitioners and activists working in each field shared on-the-ground experiences and jointly discussed the policies that are most needed.

The Goyang City Social Welfare Solidarity delivered to preliminary candidate Myung a policy proposal jointly drafted by frontline workers, compiling their opinions.

The policy proposal included four tasks in two major areas: improving the practical treatment of workers in the social welfare sector, and guaranteeing the operation of social welfare facilities and organizations while strengthening care services.

Preliminary candidate Myung stated, "Through this policy meeting with the Goyang City Social Welfare Solidarity, I have listened to valuable opinions from the welfare field, and I plan to give priority to incorporating policy proposals that are realistically achievable," adding, "If I become the mayor of Goyang Special City, I will strengthen two-way communication across all areas of Goyang Special City administration."

Preliminary candidate Myung graduated from the Department of Law at Korea Aerospace University and obtained a master’s degree in political science from the Graduate School of Politics at Kookmin University. He entered public service in 1983 and has served in public office for 39 years.

Preliminary candidate Myung has served as head of Deogyang District Office in Goyang City, head of Ilsanseo District Office, and head of the Planning and Coordination Office. In 2022, he was elected as a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council and has since served as a special aide to the party leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, vice chair of the party’s Policy Committee, and chief secretary for political affairs at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council. He is regarded as a well-prepared administrative expert who combines both expertise and on-site experience, having worked in both administration and politics.
