Complaint filed with Yeongdeungpo Police Station on the 24th
YouTuber Jeon Hangil, a former Korean history instructor, and others have filed a police complaint against presidential office deputy spokesperson An Gwiryeong on charges including attempted robbery of military property, over an incident in which she grabbed the muzzle of a martial law troop's rifle during the December 3 rebellion. Deputy Spokesperson An’s side stated, "If the dissemination of false information and baseless accusations continues, we will consider taking legal action."
Former Korean history instructor-turned YouTuber Jeon Hangil and Kim Hyuntae, former commander (colonel) of the Army Special Warfare Command's 707 Special Mission Group, are holding up a complaint against An Gwiryeong, deputy spokesperson of the presidential office, in front of the civil affairs office at Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul on the 24th. On the 24th, they claimed that Deputy Spokesperson An entered the National Assembly compound during the state of emergency and attempted to seize the firearm of a soldier carrying out an operation, asserting that there are five charges, including attempted robbery of military property, attempted aggravated robbery, and attempted obstruction of special official duties.
At the time, Deputy Spokesperson An shouted at the martial law troops who had entered the National Assembly building, "Aren't you ashamed?" and grabbed the muzzle of a soldier's rifle, shaking it roughly.
Jeon argued, "You can also see people around Deputy Spokesperson An moving together and trying to assist her," adding, "This was not a simple protest or accidental contact, but an attempt to seize the firearm through a division of roles."
Deputy Spokesperson An’s side issued a statement the same day, saying, "The five charges, including attempted robbery of military property, are difficult to establish both in terms of facts and legal principles," and added, "With regard to acts that defend the rebellion, we will, if necessary, consider legal measures such as filing charges for false accusation."
Attorney Yang Seongu, legal representative for Deputy Spokesperson An, explained, "The prior act was the martial law troops grabbing Deputy Spokesperson An’s arm, forcibly dragging her out, and raising the muzzle of the gun to threaten her; Deputy Spokesperson An merely defended herself against this physical threat," and added, "It is unacceptable to deliberately distort this and attempt to turn the victim into the assailant."
He went on to say, "If attempts to justify the rebellion by spreading false information and filing baseless complaints continue, we will have no choice but to consider legal action on charges such as false accusation and defamation."
Meanwhile, Jeon has announced plans for legal action, claiming that the so-called "Jeon Hangil Concert," which was scheduled to be held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on March 2, was canceled due to the intervention of Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dongyeon.
