The employee volunteer group of Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. participated in a free meal service for seniors, putting into practice a warm spirit of sharing.

In particular, while free meal services are usually more active during holiday seasons, this activity was carried out after the holidays, when helping hands tend to decrease, and is serving as a role model in the local community for its thoughtful practice.

On the 24th, the employee volunteer group of Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. visited the Gwangju Volunteer Center of the Korean Red Cross in Buk-gu, Gwangju, and carried out meal service activities. The employees shared soup and side dishes with local residents visiting the Gwangju Volunteer Center’s free meal facility, delivering warmth. Along with serving meals at the free meal facility, Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. also covered the meal expenses for the day.

The Gwangju Volunteer Center of the Korean Red Cross operates a free meal facility for seniors in the community who are in difficult circumstances. It provides free lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and an average of 250 people use the service per day.

Prior to this, Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. carried out volunteer activities for underprivileged groups last year, including a baking volunteer program in September and a free meal service in October.

In particular, the castella and muffins made through the baking volunteer program were delivered to vulnerable groups in the area through local administrative agencies, such as the Yongbong-dong Administrative Welfare Center.

Lee Donghoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd., said, “After the Lunar New Year holidays, public attention tends to wane, and this period can become an even lonelier time for seniors,” adding, “As a local corporation that pursues mutual growth with the community, Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. will continue to carefully reach out to those in need and carry out activities that provide practical help.”
