About 20 years ago, a man in his sixties pledged to donate his organs. At the final moment of his life, he kept that promise and passed away after giving two people the gift of a new life.

According to the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency on the 24th, the late Lee Wonhee (66) donated both of his kidneys at Wonkwang University Hospital on November 7 last year.

Lee, who had been running a company related to construction materials, suddenly collapsed during work on October 20 last year and was taken to a hospital by a colleague. However, he never regained consciousness and was declared brain-dead. With his family's consent, his kidneys were donated and saved the lives of two people.

During his lifetime, he often expressed to his family his wish to donate his organs, and in 2007 he completed his registration as a prospective donor. Known for taking the lead in helping those around him, he is said to have decided on donation with the desire to "save someone's life before I leave."

According to his bereaved family, Lee, who was born in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, as the third of three sons and two daughters, was a sincere and cheerful person who brought joy to his family and acquaintances. He was also a considerate husband who would pick flowers from the garden and hand them to his wife. After graduating from the Department of Food and Nutrition, he ran a construction materials company for more than 20 years and was an active and devout church elder who never missed early morning prayer. He also enjoyed various hobbies such as playing the drums and saxophone, and playing table tennis.

His daughter, Lee Naeun, delivered her final farewell, saying, "Dad, we are truly grateful for everything you have done for us, and I am so sorry that I did not say 'I love you' more often. We will be doing well here, so please be well in heaven. Let us be sure to meet again."
