Gwangju Dong-gu announced on the 24th that the Gwangju Chueokui Chungjang Festival, South Korea's representative street festival, won the Grand Prize in the Global Luxury Category at the 14th Korea Festival Content Awards held at the Peace and Park Convention inside Yongsan Memorial Hall in Seoul. With this, the Chungjang Festival has achieved the feat of winning an award for 10 consecutive years.
The Korea Festival Content Awards, hosted by the Korea Festival Contents Association, is the most prestigious festival selection program in the country. It selects festival content that has received strong responses not only from festival experts but also from the general public and foreigners, in order to enhance the pride of local festivals and encourage them to grow into world-class festivals.
With this award, the Gwangju Chueokui Chungjang Festival has once again proven its status as a leading global premium festival representing South Korea, by winning the Grand Prize for 10 consecutive years.
Last year, the Chungjang Festival received an enthusiastic response from visitors by presenting a variety of programs that appealed to all generations, including: daily themed programs such as Opening Day, Asia Culture Day, Family Day, and Parade Day; the expansion of its flagship content, the Chungjang Parade; citizen-planned programs based on public contests; and the realization of a "Smart Festival" that combined ESG-friendly elements with smart technologies.
An official from Dong-gu said, "For this year's Chungjang Festival, we are preparing so that songs containing each citizen's personal memories will resonate throughout the city and fill the entire city with nostalgia," adding, "We will densely curate diverse and abundant content befitting this year's theme, 'Songs of Memories,' to further solidify its status as a global premium festival."
Meanwhile, the 23rd Gwangju Chueokui Chungjang Festival, under the theme of "Songs of Memories," will be held for five days from October 7 to 11 at Geumnam-ro, Chungjang-ro, and around the 5.18 Democracy Square. Dong-gu plans to welcome domestic and international tourists with even more enhanced content and programs.
