Gumi Fire Station: Keeping Our Homes Safe with Residential Fire Safety Equipment

Stand-alone fire alarm detector sounds alarm to prompt quick evacuation

On February 24, the Gumi Fire Station in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it is actively promoting the installation of "residential fire safety equipment" in order to protect citizens' precious lives and property from residential fires.

Residential fire safety equipment refers to fire extinguishers and stand-alone fire alarm detectors. Under the relevant law, the "Act on Installation and Management of Fire-Fighting Systems," these are fire safety devices that must be installed in all general housing, except for apartments and dormitories.

Stand-alone fire alarm detectors sense smoke when a fire breaks out and sound an alarm to prompt quick evacuation, while fire extinguishers play a decisive role in preventing the spread of damage by exerting an effect comparable to that of a fire engine in the early stages of a fire.

Accordingly, the Gumi Fire Station is strengthening visual promotion along citizens' movement routes, for example by broadcasting promotional videos using the Bus Information System (BIS) at bus stops so that citizens can naturally encounter safety guidelines in their daily lives.

In addition, it is conducting on-site campaigns mainly in traditional markets and multi-use facilities, while at the same time carrying out non-face-to-face promotion through its official social media channels, making multifaceted promotional efforts so that citizens can more easily recognize the importance of residential fire safety equipment.

Gumi Fire Station Chief Cho Yoohyun said, "Residential fire safety equipment is the easiest and most reliable way to protect your family's lives from fire," adding, "Every household must install fire extinguishers and detectors and regularly inspect them to ensure they are operating properly."
