Sunchang County is recruiting candidates for the "2026 Sunchang County Masters and Master Craftsmen" in order to carry on the lineage of local traditional culture and widely promote its cultural assets.
The county explained that it is pursuing this open call to discover and designate individuals who have built outstanding skills and achievements in their professional fields, thereby enhancing their pride and further strengthening the cultural standing of Sunchang.
The recruitment covers two categories. A "Master" refers to a person who has been recognized for exceptional talent and contributions in the cultural and artistic fields under the Culture and Arts Promotion Act. A "Master Craftsman" refers to a person who has contributed to the succession of local culture in the field of crafts through skilled techniques and craftsmanship.
Applications will be accepted until March 16, 2026, and must be submitted in person at the Eup/Myeon Administrative Welfare Center with jurisdiction over the applicant's address.
Eligibility is limited to individuals who have worked in the relevant field for at least 20 years and have been recommended by at least 30 residents or a related organization, and who have lived in Sunchang for at least 10 years as of the application date. In addition, they must be individuals who have preserved and passed down traditional methods and techniques, and they must not have previously been designated by a higher-level institution in the same or a similar field.
The review will be conducted through a document screening and deliberation by the Masters and Master Craftsmen Deliberation Committee, after which the final designations will be made. The results are scheduled to be announced in early April 2026. Those selected will receive a certificate plaque at the Sunchang County Residents' Day commemorative ceremony on April 17, 2026.
An official from Sunchang County stated, "Our local traditional culture is a precious asset that has been passed down through one generation after another," adding, "We will systematically operate this Masters and Master Craftsmen system so that it becomes a foundation for the sustainable development of Sunchang's culture."
