Encouraging Local Settlement Through Strategic Industry Talent Development and Club Programs
Daejeon City is recruiting universities to participate in a linked program designed to build an educational ecosystem in which high schools, universities, and companies work together, systematically foster innovative talent that will lead Daejeon's future, and encourage young people to settle in the region.
As part of the Educational Development Special Zone project, Daejeon City is inviting applications from universities in the city to participate in the "High School-University Linked Strategic Industry Talent Development" program and the "High School-University Linked Club Operation" program.
The "High School-University Linked Strategic Industry Talent Development" program offers step-by-step courses such as education, field trips, career consulting, and project execution, divided into three tracks: the six strategic industries, regionally specialized industries, and global fields.
The "High School-University Linked Club Operation" program supports collaborative club activities in which high schools, universities, and companies participate together, focusing on three areas: regionally specialized industries, start-ups/invention/hobbies, and living labs.
The city plans to actively reflect feedback from participating high school students and universities, further advance excellent programs from the previous year, expand into additional strategic industry fields, and discover and operate new programs such as short-term and one-day classes.
Universities in Daejeon that wish to participate can apply online via Daejeon City's SME Support Portal "Daejeon Biz" by March 6, 2026. The city will select the final participating universities through a first-round document review and a second-round presentation evaluation.
Last year, 9 universities, 35 high schools, and approximately 3,600 high school students took part, and about 30 programs were operated.
Min Donghee, Director General of the Education Policy Strategy Bureau, said, "The Educational Development Special Zone is a core policy through which Daejeon City and the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education work together to support everything from nurturing local talent to helping them settle in the region," adding, "We will further strengthen the foundation for cultivating talent that grows together with the region by actively reflecting students' preferences."
