Seodaemun District Expands Free Legal Counseling Sessions by 30%...Offered Year-Round

Significant Increase to 54 Legal Counselors
Professional Consultations in Civil, Criminal, and Tax Matters

On February 24, Seodaemun District of Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced that it will continue to operate its free legal counseling office throughout this year for residents struggling with legal and tax issues, and that it will increase the number of counseling sessions by approximately 30% compared to the previous year.

Seodaemun District Expands Free Legal Counseling Sessions by 30%...Offered Year-Round In August last year, at the "Seodaemun District Free Legal Counsel Appointment Ceremony," Seodaemun District Mayor Lee Seongheon (front row center), along with lawyers and tax accountants, posed for a commemorative photo. The free legal counseling service is a daily-life-focused program that provides professional consultations in a wide range of fields, including civil, criminal, family, national tax, and local tax matters. Legal counseling is offered every Monday, and tax counseling is provided on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Both are available by appointment and run for about 30 minutes per person.

To strengthen support for legal welfare, the district significantly increased the number of legal counselors last August from 18 to 54. Last year, more than 350 counseling sessions were conducted, with a high level of satisfaction reported. In view of steadily growing demand, the district plans to flexibly improve its operating methods so that more residents can use the service, while maintaining the existing counseling framework.

In addition, community service centers also provide community-based legal counseling services through the “Seoul Village Lawyers and Village Judicial Scriveners” program.

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun District, said, “We will continue to actively operate the program, reflecting counseling demand and residents’ feedback, so that more residents can receive the help they need.”
