Support provided to ease treatment and living costs amid concerns over lower-body paralysis

Jaseng Medical Foundation announced on the 24th that it had provided 10 million won in emergency living and medical expenses to the family of Yang Myeongdeok, who was seriously injured while trying to prevent a truck accident. The delivery ceremony was held the previous day at Goyang City Hall in Gyeonggi Province.

On the 27th of last month, in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Yang suffered severe injuries to his shoulder, pelvis, spine, and other areas while trying to stop a 1-ton truck that had started rolling after its brakes were released. At the time, there was no driver in the vehicle, and it was picking up speed down a slope, creating a risk of collision with multiple vehicles following behind, including a bus.

Yang climbed into the driver’s seat and attempted to control the vehicle, but the truck overturned after slipping on a snowy alleyway. He was transported to a hospital and underwent four surgeries, and is currently in the intensive care unit. It has been reported that there are concerns about paralysis in his lower body and that he is having difficulty communicating.

Due to the accident, he had to shut down the side-dish shop that had been his livelihood, which has significantly increased the burden of medical and living expenses. The foundation decided on emergency support to ensure that this righteous act would not lead to financial hardship, and the funds will be delivered through Goyang City Hall and the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea. In addition, the foundation plans to provide free support in the form of health functional foods.

Park Byeongmo, Chairman of Jaseng Medical Foundation, said, “The courageous actions of Mr. Yang Myeongdeok played a major role in preventing a situation that could have escalated into a serious accident,” adding, “We plan to continue providing various forms of support so that righteous citizens who serve as role models for society can focus on their treatment without suffering from financial difficulties.”
