Chairman Sohn was reappointed by unanimous consent of the board of chairmen and member companies. As a result, Sohn, who has served as chairman of the Federation since early 2018 and has represented companies and business organizations, will continue as chairman of the Federation for an additional two years.
The board of chairmen of the Federation assessed that Chairman Sohn has played a pivotal role over the past eight years as chairman of the Federation on key labor and economic issues, and that in the process he has made significant contributions to improving the business environment and enhancing the policy standing of the Federation.
They cited as the background for his reappointment the expectation that policy conditions will become more volatile, including the enforcement of the revised Trade Union Act and responses to major labor issues, and the resulting heightened need for Chairman Sohn's extensive experience and leadership.
In his opening remarks that day, Chairman Sohn said, "The government's efforts to implement its national agenda are entering full swing, and there is a strong possibility that policy discussions that place burdens on companies will expand," adding, "We will further strengthen cooperation at the level of the broader business community."
In particular, regarding the so-called "Yellow Envelope Act," a revised labor law that will take effect from March 10, he stressed, "We will faithfully convey the voice of companies to the government and the National Assembly, and focus on supporting our member companies in conducting reasonable collective bargaining."

On the debate over extending the retirement age, he said that the Federation would seek a win-win solution that harmonizes with youth employment through flexible approaches such as "re-employment after retirement."
He also said the Federation will continue to call for deregulation and tax reform, and will promote labor market advancement through measures such as greater flexibility in working hours and the spread of job- and performance-based wage systems, as well as the establishment of a "prevention-centered" industrial safety and health environment.
Meanwhile, Executive Vice Chairman Lee Donggeun, 22 non-executive vice chairmen, and 2 auditors were reappointed upon the chairman's recommendation. Keum Seokho, president of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, was newly appointed as a non-executive vice chairman, and Jin Yongmin, CEO of Seoul City Gas, was newly appointed as an auditor.
