Since 2015, the two partners have continued their partnership and sponsored a total of eight exhibitions that expanded the boundaries between art and technology, including exhibitions based on research into Korean art history such as Korean calligraphy and modern art. They have also provided broad support over the past 10 years, including 45 artist projects, through sponsorship of one of LACMA's flagship programs, the "Art + Technology Lab," which was established to activate new experiments in the convergence of art and technology.
With the extension of the partnership, Hyundai Motor and LACMA unveiled a new exhibition series titled "Hyundai Project." The Hyundai Project is an exhibition program that will provide an in-depth look into the work of world-renowned artists connected to Los Angeles and the Pacific Rim region, and will present their new works at LACMA. It is scheduled to be held biennially starting in 2028.
Hyundai Motor plans to continue supporting the "Art + Technology Lab" so that its role as a platform for communication through art can be further strengthened. Beginning this spring, it will select and support artist projects that embody the convergence of art and technology through a biennial open call. The company also plans to institutionalize public programs such as symposiums and demo days that will share artists' research and experimental processes with audiences.
Chung Euisun, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said, "Through our long-standing collaboration with LACMA, Hyundai Motor has supported the convergence of art and technology and broadened the horizons of Korean art," adding, "We will continue multifaceted collaborations that inspire our times by supporting artists' creative experiments and expanding opportunities for audiences to engage with art."
Michael Govan, Director of LACMA, said, "Through our partnership with Hyundai Motor, we have deepened our exhibitions and collections and provided new opportunities for emerging creators through research and experimentation," and added, "We are delighted that our partnership with Hyundai Motor, which aims for artistic innovation and the expansion of global discourse, is entering a new chapter, and we will work closely together to support future generations of creators."
