From nature and food to people, Jeju is in the spotlight
Jeju has been included in Lonely Planet's list of the 25 must-visit destinations worldwide for 2026, compiled by the publisher of what is considered essential reading for travelers around the globe.
Jeju was included in Lonely Planet's "25 Best Places in the World to Visit in 2026," selected by the guidebook considered a must-read by travelers worldwide.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 22nd that, according to Lonely Planet's official website, Jeju-Do, South Korea, has been selected as one of the "25 destinations to watch in 2026," alongside Phuket in Thailand, the state of Maine in the United States, British Columbia in Canada, and Mexico City in Mexico.
Each year, after expert review, Lonely Planet selects regions among cities, islands, and countries that will lead travel trends, and introduces them to travelers worldwide by providing travel information on those regions and linking them to bookable products.
In the Jeju promotional video released in conjunction with this selection, Lonely Planet describes Jeju as the "Hawaii of Korea." The video showcases Jeju's natural scenery, including the sunrise over Seongsan Ilchulbong, the snowy landscape of Hallasan, the forest trails of Sanbangsan and Jeolmul Recreational Forest, and the emerald sea at Gimnyeong Beach. It also highlights Jeju's unique food culture, featuring women divers (Haenyeo) at work, as well as dishes such as seafood noodles and abalone porridge.
Kim Yangbo, Director General of Tourism Exchange for Jeju Province, said, "This selection is a case that shows Jeju's tourism status is being recognized globally, beyond Asia," adding, "Through policies such as The-Jeju Four Seasons, we will increase the attraction of foreign tourists and establish a tourism reception system that meets global standards."
