Hyundai Motor Group has invested several million dollars in the U.S. robotics software startup FieldAI and is moving to fully implement its strategy to build a robotics ecosystem.
According to industry sources on February 22, FieldAI recently announced on its LinkedIn page, "We are pleased to have entered into an official partnership with Hyundai Motor Group," adding, "This partnership includes a financial investment and focuses on expanding physical AI into fully operational AI in construction and industrial sites."
FieldAI is a company that develops artificial intelligence software for robot control and owns the Field Foundation Model, which enhances robots' autonomous navigation and task execution capabilities. The FFM is a technology that enables robots to perceive complex environments and make decisions and take actions on their own without separate maps.
Hyundai Motor Group has already secured competitiveness in hardware platforms through Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot Atlas and quadruped robot Spot. With the investment in FieldAI, the group is now seen as having built integrated robotics competitiveness by simultaneously strengthening both its robot hardware and software capabilities.
Hyundai Motor Group has been expanding its collaboration network with leading global AI companies.
Last year, it signed a business agreement with Nvidia, the world's largest semiconductor company, to enhance its physical AI capabilities, and this year it entered into a strategic partnership with Google DeepMind to accelerate the development of future humanoid technologies. The group has also secured 50,000 units of the latest Blackwell graphics processing units (GPUs) and has been conducting research on AI models for complex robot control, thereby establishing a stable foundation for physical AI.
