Yangcheon-gu Launches Self-Inspection for 1,632 Public Hygiene Businesses Including Beauty Salons and Laundries

On-site inspections jointly conducted by public and private sectors for non-participating establishments

Yangcheon-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gijae) announced on February 22 that it will promote this year’s self-inspection program for 1,632 public hygiene establishments within the district. The initiative aims to make autonomous hygiene management a routine practice for business owners, thereby improving service quality and protecting the health of residents.

Yangcheon-gu Launches Self-Inspection for 1,632 Public Hygiene Businesses Including Beauty Salons and Laundries The business owner of a public hygiene establishment (service business) in Yangcheon-gu is conducting an online self-inspection. Provided by Yangcheon-gu.

The establishments to be inspected include 1,289 beauty salons, 87 barbershops, 133 laundries, 13 lodging businesses, 24 bathhouses, and 86 building hygiene management businesses. The inspection will cover 10 to 30 items per business type, checking compliance with facility and equipment standards under the Public Health Control Act, implementation of hygiene management standards by business operators, and completion of hygiene education.

Business owners must conduct self-inspections at least once a month using the checklist for their business type, and they are required to submit the results only once between February and May this year. For online submission, they can log in to the public health center website (www.yangcheon.go.kr/health) without registering as a member, by entering their business type, representative’s name, and date of birth, then checking the inspection items and saving the results. Business owners who have difficulty using the online system may fill out a paper checklist and submit it by mail, fax, or email. For more information, they can contact the Yangcheon-gu Health and Hygiene Division at 02-2620-4893.

For establishments that do not participate in the self-inspection within the designated period, or whose inspection results are insufficient, government officials and honorary public hygiene inspectors will conduct on-site inspections through public-private joint efforts. Non-compliant establishments will be given an opportunity to make voluntary corrections, and if they fail to do so, administrative measures will be taken in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

To enhance the effectiveness of the self-inspection program, Yangcheon-gu built an online system in 2023 and has continuously improved convenience for business owners, including simplifying the login procedure last year. As a result, the self-inspection participation rate steadily increased from 84.3% in 2023 to 91.6% in 2024 and 93% in 2025.

Yangcheon-gu District Mayor Lee Gijae said, “The voluntary efforts of business owners to manage hygiene are raising the standard of public hygiene services in Yangcheon-gu and creating an environment where residents can feel safe using services anytime, anywhere,” adding, “We ask for your active participation in this year’s self-inspection as well.”
