An Indonesian man has sparked public outrage after making sexually suggestive remarks to Korean female students, filming them without their consent, and posting the footage on social media (SNS).

"Do You Want a Snack?" Indonesian Man Sexually Harasses Korean Students in His Language, Employed by Korean Company Indonesian man who sexually harassed and illegally filmed Korean women on Instagram

Recently, the video that he had uploaded to his own account spread rapidly across online platforms such as X (formerly Twitter). The footage shows him on a bus with Korean female students, directing a particular phrase in Indonesian toward them.

The phrase he used, "Ni cilor mau," literally means "Do you want a snack?" but commentators pointed out that in Indonesia it is used as slang with a twisted pronunciation to evoke a sexual meaning. When the victims, unable to understand what he was saying, reacted awkwardly, the man mocked them by saying, "I don't speak English," a scene that was also captured in the video.

It was reported that the video was filmed and uploaded without the consent of those involved, adding a controversy over illegal filming. As the backlash grew, some of the man’s personal details were shared online, and claims emerged that he is employed by a livestock-related company in Korea.

As online users’ complaints reached the company, the company issued a statement. The head of the company said in an apology message, "We deeply apologize for the discomfort and harm caused by our employee’s inappropriate behavior," adding, "After confirming the facts, we will take strict action in accordance with our internal regulations." The company also said it would strengthen ethics training and review its organizational culture to prevent any recurrence.

The man’s social media account has now been deleted.
