The KOSPI has surpassed the 5,800 level for the first time in history.
On the 20th, the KOSPI closed at 5,808.53, up 131.28 points (2.31%) from the previous day. Trading volume was provisionally tallied at 1,734.76 million shares, with a trading value of 32.7355 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions recorded a net purchase of 1.6109 trillion won, while foreigners and retail investors posted net sales of 744.6 billion won and 987.1 billion won, respectively. In the futures market, institutions and retail investors recorded net sales of 642.9 billion won and 263.2 billion won, respectively, while foreigners logged a net purchase of 976.9 billion won. In program trading, there was a net purchase of 143.4 billion won in arbitrage trading and a net sale of 398.7 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.
By sector, more sectors rose than fell. The insurance sector climbed 7.95%, while finance gained 3.91%, distribution 2.97%, transportation equipment 2.86%, machinery and equipment 2.84%, construction 2.43%, electrical and electronics 2.21%, securities 2.14%, manufacturing 2.08%, electricity and gas 1.85%, telecommunications 1.7%, metals 1.68%, general services 1.31%, and transportation and storage 1.19%. In contrast, paper and lumber fell 1.36%, while entertainment and culture, real estate, and textiles and apparel ended the session slightly lower.
Most of the top large-cap stocks by market capitalization also advanced. SK Hynix rose 6.15%, Samsung Electronics 0.05%, Samsung Biologics 0.93%, SK Square 2.47%, Kia 1.06%, Doosan Enerbility 5.18%, Hanwha Aerospace 8.09%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 4.88%, KB Financial Group 1.38%, and Samsung C&T 3.6%. Hyundai Motor and LG Energy Solution, on the other hand, were weak.
The number of advancing stocks came to 546, while 341 declined and 39 were unchanged. Nine stocks hit the upper price limit.
The KOSDAQ index ended lower. The KOSDAQ closed at 1,154.0, down 6.71 points (0.58%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and retail investors recorded net purchases of 3.4 billion won and 318.6 billion won, respectively, while foreigners posted a net sale of 272.8 billion won.
Among the top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, decliners outnumbered gainers. Ecopro fell 0.58%, Alteogen 2.31%, Rainbow Robotics 0.84%, ABL Bio 3.39%, Kolon TissueGene 1.63%, Leeno Industrial 3.31%, HLB 0.93%, Peptron 1.61%, LegoChem Biosciences 2.53%, and EO Technics 1.46%. In contrast, Samchundang Pharm and Caregen ended the session stronger.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,446.1 won, down 2.8 won from the previous day.
