Former Ambassador to Egypt Kim Yonghyun Attends as Foreign Minister's Special Envoy

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the inaugural meeting held that day in Washington, D.C., United States, was chaired and led by President Trump. It is reported that President Trump sent the invitation directly to President Lee Jaemyung.
This meeting marked the official launch of the Board of Peace's mandate, with focused discussions on the reconstruction and humanitarian assistance for the Gaza Strip, as well as measures for peacebuilding. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Including our participation in this inaugural meeting, we have supported President Trump's leading efforts to promote peace in the Gaza Strip, and we will continue to actively participate in the international community's efforts to establish peace." Former Ambassador Kim, who attended as the Foreign Minister's special envoy, is an expert well-versed in Middle Eastern affairs and international conflict issues, and most recently served as Ambassador to Egypt.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it has not been notified by the United States side of any official deadline for joining the Board of Peace, and added that it will carefully review whether to become a full member, taking into account the committee's operating methods and aspects of international law.
