AI-Based Order Optimization for GS25 and GS Shop “Short-Pick” Content Production

GS Retail announced on the 19th that it held the 3rd results-sharing event for its open innovation program, “The GS Challenge Future Retail.”

Future Retail is a startup discovery and incubation program that GS Retail has been running in partnership with the Seoul Center for Creative Economy & Innovation. For the 3rd Future Retail cohort, seven startups were finally selected: Crabs, ReConLabs, DRAP, Datarize, Z AI, Team Limited, and Omelet. GS Retail promoted Proof of Concept (PoC) verifications, such as applying each company’s specialized technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to GS Retail’s various business units.

The results-sharing event held on the 12th was attended by CEO Heo Seohong, GS Retail employees, and the seven startups. The session focused on sharing the outcomes of collaboration synergies built over the past four months around these startups, and it is reported that various proof-of-concept results drew significant attention, including AI demand-forecasting-based order optimization promoted by GS25 and Omelet, and AI “short-pick” content production promoted by GS Shop and Crabs.

Based on these outcomes, GS Retail plans to fully pursue a wide range of AX (AI transformation) collaborations with the seven startups, including expanding the application of the AI-based order optimization collaboration carried out with Omelet. The company has also already begun preparations for the 4th cohort of The GS Challenge Future Retail and intends to recruit new startups in the first half of this year.

Each selected startup is provided with 10 million won in PoC funding, collaboration opportunities through GS Retail’s business infrastructure, and one-on-one mentoring from expert personnel.

Lee Sunghwa, Head of New Growth at GS Retail, said, “Starting with our open innovation program, we plan to focus on promoting AX (AI transformation) innovation that combines AI and digital technologies, in order to deliver differentiated value propositions to customers.”
