People Power Party to Change Its Name Again... Shortlists 2 Candidates, Final Decision Expected This Weekend

Leadership meeting held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of February 18

The People Power Party has narrowed down the candidates for its new party name to two and decided to finalize the plan as early as this weekend.

It was reported that party leaders, including Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, Song Eonseok, floor leader, and Jeong Jeomsik, policy chief, made this decision at a meeting held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 18th.

At the meeting, Representative Seo Jiyoung, head of the party's Public Relations Headquarters, and former lawmaker Kim Sumin, who leads the party's Brand Strategy Task Force (TF), presented two shortlisted candidates for the new party name that had been selected from entries collected through a public contest and other channels. It is known that after receiving the report on the shortlist, Jang did not offer any particular opinion.

The People Power Party plans to submit the party name revision proposal to the Supreme Council early next week and to gather opinions at a general meeting of lawmakers as well. The party is also considering moving up next week's scheduled Supreme Council meeting to this weekend and holding it as an emergency session.

Once the final candidate is selected through this process, the new party name will be confirmed following resolutions by the Standing National Committee and the National Committee.

Chief Spokesperson Park Seonghun met with reporters at the National Assembly on this day and said, "One of the ways to concretely demonstrate our efforts to broaden the party's appeal is to revise the party name," adding, "Since more than half of the party members already voted in favor of changing the party name in a party-wide vote, it will be difficult to reverse that decision."

He went on to explain, "Next week, we plan to finalize the new party name and, on March 1, use banners to show the public the transformed image of our party."
