According to British media outlet The Sun on the 15th (local time), the incident occurred on the 12th on board low-cost British carrier Jet2's flight LS896, which had departed from Antalya, T?rkiye and was bound for Manchester, United Kingdom. At the time, the aircraft was cruising at 30,000 feet (about 9,144 meters).
The video filmed inside the cabin captured the punching exactly as it unfolded. In the footage, a male passenger can be seen trading insults and having a heated verbal argument with another passenger seated nearby, before eventually throwing punches and getting into a physical fight. Screams then rang out, and the cabin descended into chaos in an instant. A flight attendant shouted at the passengers to stop fighting, but to no avail, and as their companions also joined in, the scuffle between the two men escalated into a mass brawl. While they were fighting, the remaining passengers were left terrified.
In the end, the captain decided to make an emergency landing for safety reasons. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Brussels, Belgium, three hours after takeoff, and Belgian police, who were standing by at the airport, took into custody two passengers identified as the main instigators of the disturbance. The plane then resumed its flight to Manchester.

The exact reason why the fight broke out is not known. However, one witness said, "A passenger seated behind got drunk and then started making racist remarks," adding that "the comments were threatening and blatantly offensive." The passengers who were subjected to the abuse were reported to be Pakistani.
Jet2 has imposed a lifetime ban on the two passengers who were taken away by the police for their involvement in the brawl. In a statement, Jet2 said, "We were left with no choice but to divert the flight due to the aggressive behavior of these two passengers," and added, "We will be charging them for all costs incurred as a result of this emergency landing." The airline went on to say, "As a family-friendly airline, we operate a zero-tolerance policy toward any behavior that disrupts safety on board," and added, "We apologize to the passengers who were affected."
