Busan Special Judicial Police Division Conducts Intensive Winter Vacation Crackdown
The Busan Metropolitan City Government conducted an intensive crackdown on harmful environments for youths during the winter vacation period and uncovered 10 establishments violating the law.
The Busan Metropolitan City Government announced on the 15th that from November 13 last year to February 4 this year, it carried out inspections targeting entertainment bars, singing bars, soju bars, beer pubs, karaoke rooms, and hold'em pubs, and found 10 establishments that had failed to display signs stating "No admission or employment for persons under 19."
This crackdown was carried out to block youths from being exposed to harmful environments during the vacation period. The main inspection items were whether establishments that prohibit youth admission or employment were in violation, whether alcoholic beverages and cigarettes were being sold to youths, and whether the obligation to display signs restricting youth admission and employment was being observed.
The operators of the establishments that were caught have been criminally charged and are under investigation, and they may face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won under the Youth Protection Act.
The Special Judicial Police Division of the Busan Metropolitan City Government is receiving citizen reports on violations of the Youth Protection Act.
Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon said, "We ask business operators and workers to comply with the Youth Protection Act so as not to damage the creation of a sound environment for youths and the image of Busan as a tourist city."
