To help you make the most of this year's Lunar New Year holiday, here is a list of officially certified travel destinations across the country compiled by the government. From museums near your home to exhilarating winter festivals, well-curated programs are waiting for us all over the nation.

Seoul Metropolitan Area <History and Science in the Heart of the City>

At the National Museum of Korea in Seoul, a special exhibition titled "Our Yi Sun-sin" will be held from February 14 to 18 to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation. It sheds light on Admiral Yi Sun-sin as a human being by combining artifacts that embody his anguish with contemporary media.


At the National Gugak Center in Seoul, a one-day special performance, "Seol Ma(jung) Gase," will take the stage on February 17. The exciting rhythms of traditional Korean music and classical dance moves will bring out the full festive spirit of the holiday.


At the National Gwacheon Science Museum, a Lunar New Year special exhibition "SF-POP" will run from February 14 to 18. This unique exhibition, where science fiction meets pop art, is perfect for stimulating children's imaginations.


At the Ice Festival in Wangbang Village on Ganghwado Island and the Baegun Valley Winter General Festival in Pocheon, visitors can enjoy the essence of winter leisure with smelt fishing, ice sledding, and appreciating snow flowers.


At the Yangpyeong Smelt and Trout Ice Festival, you can not only catch smelt and trout but also take part in a hands-on experience making sweet steamed buns.

Gangwon Region <Romance and Art on the Snowfields>

At the National Chuncheon Museum, a special program titled "A Horse Running with Blessings" will be offered from February 13 to 18. Visitors can view horse-related artifacts and take part in activities to wish for good fortune in the New Year.


From February 13 to 22, the Daegwallyeong Snowflake Festival in Pyeongchang will be held, featuring a massive snow sculpture exhibition and a snow-sledding hill. The exotic snowy landscapes, which can only be experienced in Pyeongchang, the city of snow, are truly spectacular.


Chungcheong Region <Where Traditional Culture Meets Marine Life>

At the National Museums in Cheongju and Buyeo, the "2026 Lunar New Year Traditional Culture Event" will be held from February 14 to 18, featuring a rich program of folk games such as jegichagi (kicking a shuttlecock) and top-spinning. There will be a wide range of customized folk play for family visitors.


At the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea in Seocheon, from February 14 to 18, visitors can enjoy free admission to the exhibition halls along with a "Marine Creature Spinning Top Making" activity, where children can color sea creatures themselves while having fun.


At the National Science Museum in Daejeon, a special exhibition titled "Time to Become Friends with Science" will run from February 14 to 18, offering an opportunity to approach difficult science in an easy and entertaining way.

Jeolla Region <The Deep Charm and Leisure of the South>

At the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, an "Exhibition of Emerging Asian Artists" will be held from February 14 to 18, providing a comprehensive look at trends in contemporary Asian art.


At the National Naju Museum, a special exhibition titled "The Noble Dignity Shaped in Clay" will run from February 14 to 18. It is a golden opportunity to appreciate the unique jar-coffin culture of the Yeongsan River basin.


At the National Iksan Museum, a 2026 Lunar New Year traditional culture event will be held from February 14 to 18, allowing visitors to feel the festive excitement of the holiday along with the history of Iksan.


Gyeongsang Region <A Collaboration of Science and History>

At the National Busan Science Museum, a special exhibition titled "Mind-Blowing Brain Science" will be held from February 14 to 18. It cleverly unravels the mysteries of our brain so that visitors of all ages can enjoy the experience.


At the National Gyeongju Museum, a special exhibition titled "Silla Gold Crowns: Power and Prestige" will be held from February 14 to 18, focusing on the splendid gold crown artifacts that epitomize the ancient capital of Gyeongju, a city with a thousand-year history.


At the National Daegu Science Museum, a special exhibition titled "The Invisible Universe" will run from February 14 to 18, inviting visitors to explore dark matter and the hidden secrets of the cosmos that cannot be seen with the naked eye.


In addition, at the National Jeju Museum, from February 15 to 18, visitors can write wish cards and receive coloring kits on a first-come, first-served basis. All royal palaces and royal tombs across the country will be open free of charge throughout the holiday. Admission will be free to the four major palaces, including Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, as well as Jongmyo Shrine and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty.
