The seminar was organized out of a sense of concern that, as cyberattack methods such as hacking using AI technology and disguised employment become more sophisticated, personal data breaches are emerging as a core risk directly linked to a company's reputation, trust, and business continuity.
The seminar specifically shared the actual patterns of recent cyberattacks and the structural vulnerabilities that companies face. Cho Junghyun, Vice President of Enki Whitehat, presented various real-life cases, including mass submission of fake resumes using AI and internal infiltration through disguised employment, as well as tampering with online meeting links and distributing malware.
Vice President Cho said, "Recent hacking is carried out not so much through highly advanced technology, but by persistently exploiting structural vulnerabilities that companies do not anticipate," adding, "It is necessary to design security on the premise of potential attacks from the development stage."
Cases of establishing information protection governance within companies were also introduced. Jin Hyeongjun, Head of Information Security at LG Electronics, explained LG Electronics' information protection framework, stating, "We are embedding a security culture across the organization through employee participation, including a reward system under which executives and staff can directly report vulnerabilities."
Jin also said, "Information protection is not just about preventing incidents; it is about protecting customer trust and brand value."
The importance of initial response after an incident occurs was also emphasized. Kim Juil, Team Leader at the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), said, "It is important to build response capabilities on the premise that an incident can occur at any time," and added, "Prompt reporting and cooperation upon recognizing an incident are the starting point for preventing further damage and minimizing a company's legal liability."
Response strategies from a legal perspective were also presented. Choi Jinhyuk, an attorney at Barun Law LLC, gave a presentation on the legal and practical response measures that companies should take in the event of a personal data breach.
Attorney Choi stressed, "When a personal data breach occurs, the top priority must be immediate blocking and emergency measures to prevent further leakage," and added, "Because the amount of administrative fines and damages can vary depending on the speed and manner of the company's response after the incident, it is crucial to have pre-established manuals and to involve legal experts at an early stage."
After the keynote presentations, there was also time for Q&A and networking with the speakers to share practical response challenges from the field.
More than 100 corporate legal affairs and compliance officers and related personnel attended the seminar.
Meanwhile, Barun Law LLC's specialized Information Technology (IT) Response Team is composed entirely of lawyers with science and engineering backgrounds and practical experience in the IT industry, providing integrated technical and legal advisory services on personal data protection and cybersecurity issues.
