"50-Something Who Nearly Weighed 0.1 Ton Lost 11kg in a Month... 'My Trainer Was ChatGPT'"

From 91 kg to 79.9 kg: 11 kg lost

Japanese journalist Yaita Akio shared his experience of losing 11 kilograms in one month by using ChatGPT like a personal trainer to manage his diet and daily habits. He said that by checking every meal through ChatGPT and even receiving behavioral advice, he reduced his weight from 91 kilograms to 79.9 kilograms.

According to recent reports from foreign media such as Taiwan's CTI News Network, Yaita introduced his ChatGPT-centered weight loss process through his social networking service (SNS) accounts. He said, "I used AI like a personal coach that is with me 24 hours a day," and cited ChatGPT as the key tool in his weight loss.

He explained that he took photos of everything he ate at each meal, sent them to ChatGPT, and received evaluations on calorie intake, nutritional balance, and whether his food choices were appropriate. Even when he ate greasy food, he reported it as it was, and ChatGPT first pointed out his eating habits, then suggested ways to adjust his meals for the rest of the day and presented complementary strategies.

According to Yaita, ChatGPT did more than simply calculate calories; it provided advice on his overall lifestyle. It repeatedly warned that salt intake is an even more important concern than sugar, and it also mentioned that he should manage his uric acid levels. When he woke up in the middle of the night feeling hungry, it even offered specific behavioral guidelines such as, "Eat only seven almonds."

He said that ChatGPT gave professional yet nagging and very meticulous advice, and that it was particularly helpful in providing immediate judgments that matched the actual flow of daily life, such as right after a meal or during fasting periods. Being able to check right away what he could eat and whether his choices were appropriate greatly reduced the burden of managing his diet, he explained.

However, Yaita also revealed that, during his weight loss process, he simultaneously used an obesity treatment injection commonly known as "Wegovy." He explained that, rather than being a means of rapidly shedding fat, the injection played more of a supplementary role by making him feel less hungry so that he could continue controlling his diet.

He added that, following ChatGPT's advice, he did not drastically increase his exercise, but instead managed it at a level that would avoid inflammation and swelling in his body. By checking his weight and eating habits with ChatGPT every day, the management naturally became a habit.

Yaita said that through this experience, he realized that technology can change one's lifestyle itself, and emphasized that if people choose the right tools and methods and create reasons that leave them with no other choice but to continue, losing weight is not as difficult as they might think.

Meanwhile, as the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT for health management is increasing, some point out that such tools should be limited to reference purposes only. In the medical and health fields, there are concerns that plausible but inaccurate answers may be provided, or that judgments may be distorted depending on the input information. Therefore, experts stress that AI advice should not replace professional medical consultation.
