On February 10, ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays, Pohang City officials visited the home of 98-year-old Ms. Park, the only surviving victim of the Japanese military sexual slavery system in the North Gyeongsang Province region, to convey their sympathy and support.
This visit was arranged to carefully check on the well-being of an elderly woman who still bears the pain of history as the Lunar New Year approaches, and to express deep courtesy and respect to a living witness to history whom our society must never forget.
On this day, Pohang City officials checked the senior's health condition and living environment, and looked closely into whether there were any inconveniences in her daily life.
Currently, Ms. Park is the only surviving victim in the North Gyeongsang Province region, and there are only six survivors nationwide, which means particularly attentive care and meticulous support at the administrative level are required.
A Pohang City official said, "We will look after her with the heart of a family member so that she can spend the Lunar New Year holidays in peace and good health," adding, "We will continue to strengthen close-knit welfare services, including regular visits and tailored medical support."
Meanwhile, Pohang City visits Ms. Park's home at least once a month to continuously check on her health and living conditions. In addition, the city is helping her maintain a stable life through special visits of consolation conducted on every major holiday, as well as by providing linked medical and welfare support.
