"Do I Have a Body That Easily Gains Weight?"...Put This in Your Mouth for 10 Seconds

Cracker test to measure carbohydrate metabolism capacity
If sweetness appears after 30 seconds, you should limit your calorie intake

Even when people eat the same amount of food, the degree of change in their bodies can differ depending on their constitution. There is a test that can determine, with the simple act of biting into a cracker, whether you have a body type that easily gains weight, drawing considerable attention.

Recently, Korean medicine doctor Lee Young-chae introduced the so-called "cracker test" on her YouTube channel "Youngchae's Diet Bogam." According to Dr. Lee, you can learn about your body type through the cracker test.

The test method is simple. Dr. Lee explained, "Put a sugar-free cracker in your mouth and keep chewing, then count how many seconds it takes until you start to taste sweetness." If it takes more than 30 seconds for the sweetness to appear, you likely have a body type that easily stores fat.

Why is that? The cracker test was first devised by American geneticist Dr. Sharon Moalem. In fact, the cracker test measures "carbohydrate metabolism capacity." The faster you begin to taste sweetness from the cracker in your mouth, the higher your ability to break down carbohydrates into glucose. This is because it indicates that you have a higher amount of amylase, the enzyme in the mouth that breaks down carbohydrates.

When carbohydrate metabolism capacity is high, bodily functions are maintained more actively, and the carbohydrates that are broken down are quickly converted into glucose, the body's energy source, leaving little chance for fat to accumulate. Conversely, if carbohydrate metabolism capacity is low, the calories you consume are more likely to be stored directly as fat.

According to the cracker test, if you begin to taste sweetness within 14 seconds after biting into the cracker, you are a type with high carbohydrate metabolism capacity. You have a body type that uses carbohydrates well as energy, and even if you eat more than others, you gain relatively less weight. If you taste sweetness between 15 and 20 seconds, you are a type with moderate carbohydrate metabolism capacity.

If it takes more than 30 seconds to taste sweetness, you are a type with low carbohydrate metabolism capacity and need to limit your carbohydrate intake. This is because the carbohydrates you consume are more likely to be stored as fat rather than used as energy. For people with this body type, consuming too many carbohydrates increases the risk of developing conditions such as obesity and diabetes.
