In Pyeongsan Chaekbang YouTube video
On his past "most painful finger" remark, he "admits failure"
"We failed, at least when it comes to real estate policy."
Former President Moon Jaein said this about his administration's real estate policy during his term in office.
On February 9, a teaser video for "Pyeongsan Chaekbang TV Season 2," featuring a conversation between former President Moon and former Blue House protocol secretary Tak Hyunmin, was uploaded to the YouTube channel "Pyeongsan Chaekbang." In the video, former President Moon discussed books related to the economy with former secretary Tak and commented on his administration's real estate policy.
When former secretary Tak brought up Moon's past remark that "real estate is my most painful finger" (my biggest regret), former President Moon replied, "First of all, I have to admit that we failed. We failed, at least when it comes to real estate policy."
Previously, at a press conference marking the fourth anniversary of his presidency in 2021, former President Moon had said, "On the real estate issue, the government has reached a point where it has nothing to say," citing real estate as the most regrettable issue during his term and acknowledging that he had failed to achieve his goal of stabilizing real estate prices.
The video also included a discussion about a fund in which former President Moon invested. When former secretary Tak asked, "You bought a fund while you were in office, right?" former President Moon replied, "I still have it." When former secretary Tak said, "It must have gone up quite a lot," former President Moon answered, "It probably (went up a lot)."
In January 2021, with the aim of promoting the "Korean New Deal" policy, former President Moon invested a total of 50 million won, putting 10 million won each into five "New Deal Funds." In August 2019, he also invested 50 million won in the "Pilseung Korea Fund." It is not known how much profit former President Moon has earned from these funds.
Sharing the video on his Instagram account that day, former secretary Tak wrote, "Former President Moon's painful confession and admission. Expectations for the Korean economy."
Meanwhile, in April 2023, former President Moon opened a bookstore in Pyeongsan Village, Jisan-ri, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan-si, South Gyeongsang Province, where his private residence is located, and has been personally greeting customers there as the bookstore keeper. He later launched the YouTube channel "Pyeongsan Chaekbang," through which he recommends books and holds book-related conversations with guests.
