KOSPI Jumps Over 4% on U.S. Tailwind...Closes Above 5,290 KOSPI jumped more than 4% at the open on the 9th. The KOSPI closed the session with gains of over 4%, supported by the upward trend on the New York stock market.


On February 9, the KOSPI finished trading at 5,298.04, up 208.9 points (4.1%) from the previous day. Trading volume was provisionally tallied at 612.48 million shares, with a trading value of 26.27 trillion won.


By investor type, institutions and foreigners were net buyers of 2.7123 trillion won and 448.7 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net sellers of 3.2982 trillion won. In the futures market, foreigners and individuals were net buyers of 1.6163 trillion won and 365.3 billion won, respectively, while institutions were net sellers of 2.0044 trillion won. In program trading, there was a net buy of 237.2 billion won in arbitrage trading and 439.6 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.


By sector, most sectors advanced. The medical precision instruments sector rose 7.99%, securities 7.7%, construction 5.55%, electrical and electronics 5.11%, chemicals 5.02%, retail 4.98%, telecommunications 4.9%, entertainment and culture 4.45%, machinery and equipment 4.4%, manufacturing 4.29%, finance 3.92%, insurance 3.33%, paper and lumber 3.3%, utilities (electricity and gas) 2.96%, general services 2.95%, metals 2.85%, and pharmaceuticals 2.63%. In contrast, the textiles and apparel sector ended the session slightly lower.


Most of the top large-cap stocks by market capitalization also rose. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix climbed 4.92% and 5.72%, respectively, while Hyundai Motor gained 2.25%, LG Energy Solution 2.47%, Samsung Biologics 1.56%, SK Square 9.53%, Hanwha Aerospace 1.02%, Doosan Enerbility 7.19%, Kia 1.25%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 0.19%, KB Financial Group 1.41%, and Celltrion 4.55%.


On this day, 717 stocks advanced, 174 declined, and 35 were unchanged. One stock hit the daily upper price limit.


The KOSDAQ Index also posted gains of more than 4%. The KOSDAQ ended the day at 1,127.55, up 46.78 points (4.33%) from the previous session. By investor type, institutions and foreigners were net buyers of 484.4 billion won and 166.1 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net sellers of 605.7 billion won.


Most of the top KOSDAQ large-cap stocks also rose. Ecopro gained 2.25%, while Alteogen climbed 6.93%, Ecopro BM 4.19%, Rainbow Robotics 4.41%, Samchundang Pharm 8.0%, ABL Bio 6.53%, Kolon TissueGene 3.82%, Leeno Industrial 3.45%, HLB 3.94%, LegoChem Biosciences 4.95%, Caregen 3.21%, Peptron 7.68%, and Wonik IPS 7.63%.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,459.0 won, down 4.0 won from the previous day.
