Developer Behind 800 Million Won Coin Fraud Who Claimed "Mere Aiding" Arrested and Detained

Joint Principal Offender Proven Through Supplementary Investigation

The developer who created a virtual asset fraud website and stole 800 million won has been arrested and detained following a supplementary investigation by the prosecution.

The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Inwoo) announced on the 9th that it had indicted developer A without detention for creating a virtual asset fraud website.

A, in collusion with five accomplices who have already been arrested and indicted, is accused of creating a fraudulent virtual asset staking (deposit) product website around March last year and stealing approximately 800 million won from victims.

A had initially denied involvement in the crime by exploiting the difficulty of explaining specialized technical areas, and was therefore referred to the prosecution without detention on charges of aiding and abetting simple fraud.

However, the prosecution determined that A was not a mere assistant but a joint principal offender involved in the overall crime, and conducted a supplementary investigation while sharing the status of the investigation with the Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul.

In the course of this process, the prosecution obtained expert appraisal results that could prove A's key role.

Even during the hearing on the arrest warrant requested by the police, A denied the charges, but the prosecutor who directly participated in the questioning used evidence from the supplementary investigation to refute A's claims in detail, and the warrant was ultimately issued.

After the case was referred to the prosecution, A was finally indicted as additional evidence of his alleged crimes was established through the prosecution's meticulous supplementary investigation in the technical field.

The Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office stated, "We will strive to enhance public trust by closely cooperating with judicial police and uncovering the substantive truth."
