Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, Samsung Electronics' flagship global youth CSR program, is an idea competition launched in 2010 in which young people around the world solve challenges in their local communities by leveraging their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) capabilities.
This Winter Olympics Samsung Solve for Tomorrow ambassador group consists of 10 teams selected from among the winning teams in each region around the world that demonstrated outstanding innovation, scalability and social impact. Five teams were chosen in the sports technology category, including a sports hairband that protects hearing aids from moisture and impact during exercise, and five teams were selected in the health and environment category, including an AI-based smart band that uses sensors to monitor wound conditions in real time and detect infections.
The selected ambassadors will receive various forms of support over the next two years to help turn their solutions into actual products.
Samsung Electronics and the IOC will also operate an exhibition in Milan to showcase the ambassadors' creative solutions to Olympic fans. The exhibition will be held from the 9th to the 10th (local time) at Smart City Lab, a startup incubator located in Milan, Italy.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry said, "Young people are using technology to create a more inclusive, sustainable, healthy and active future," adding, "Above all, I am delighted to see them using sport, technology and problem-solving skills to transform lives."
Lee Wonjin, Head of Global Marketing at Samsung Electronics, said, "Samsung Electronics has been striving to contribute to society through technological innovation and sports, and to create opportunities for young people around the world to grow," and added, "Together with the IOC, we will actively support the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow ambassadors selected this time so that they can grow into future leaders who drive positive social change through technology and sports."
