Jung Cheongrae Mentions "One-Team Spirit of Party, Government, and Presidential Office"

The ruling party, the government, and the presidential office held this year's first high-level policy consultation meeting and discussed issues including the establishment of a Real Estate Supervisory Service and the handling of the Special Act on Investment in the United States. As tensions have been detected among the three sides over the push for a merger between the Democratic Party of Korea and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, as well as the recommendation of candidates for the second comprehensive special counsel probe, there were also remarks stressing the need for a "one-team spirit."

Prime Minister Kim Minseok said at the high-level policy consultation meeting held on the 8th at the prime minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "Normalizing the real estate market is absolutely necessary in order to move toward the 'productive investment' that the president has emphasized," adding, "We will establish a Real Estate Supervisory Service under the Office for Government Policy Coordination to systematize investigation and prosecution, and to eradicate speculation and illegal activities," as he called on the National Assembly for active deliberation.

Regarding the Special Act on Investment in the United States, he said, "The delay of the special act for managing strategic investment between Korea and the United States is affecting follow-up measures to the tariff negotiations," and added, "I hope that the special committee formed by the ruling and opposition parties will swiftly enact the bill."

He also spoke from the perspective that the party and the government must assist the president. Prime Minister Kim said, "Now is the time to focus on producing tangible outcomes in state affairs," and added, "Both the party and the government must stay alert and support the president's governance."

Prime Minister Kim stressed, "The National Assembly needs a legislative speed race. It is regrettable that even legislation for the government's basic policies is not being processed in a timely manner," adding, "Both the party and the government must move more proactively."

Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoonshik likewise underscored the need for cooperation from the National Assembly. He said, "President Lee Jaemyung is emphasizing his determination to improve people's livelihoods every day on issues such as real estate and prices, and his resolve to achieve changes that the public can actually feel is growing stronger," adding, "The Blue House is also following the president's words and is making 'policies that people can feel' the first criterion of state affairs."

Kang continued, "However, no matter how good the policies prepared by the government and the Blue House are, they cannot be implemented if the legal foundation is not established. Substantive results are ultimately completed through legislation," he said.

Kang added, "It is urgent to pass livelihood-related bills such as the Special Act on Investment in the United States for the safety of the economic environment, follow-up legislation on supply measures for housing stability, and the Essential Medical Care Enhancement Act," and appealed, "We ask the National Assembly to accelerate the legislative process. The Blue House will also do its utmost."

Democratic Party leader Jung Cheongrae said, "We must accomplish the historic tasks before us, including clearing up the remnants of insurrection and carrying out livelihood reforms, and open a new future for the Republic of Korea," stressing, "What is most important in that process is the one-team spirit of the party, the government, and the presidential office."

He added, "Just as we united last year like a piece of beef brisket and achieved the normalization of the Republic of Korea, let us again devote ourselves this year, without change, through seamless cooperation to ensure the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration."

On the issue of allowing online delivery by large discount stores, he said, "Rationalizing regulations on online delivery by large discount stores and the like to enhance public convenience and strengthen the competitiveness of domestic distribution has become a task that can no longer be postponed," and added, "In the rapidly changing distribution environment, outdated regulations must not hold back our companies."

Earlier, on the 4th, the party, the government, and the presidential office held a working-level consultation meeting and discussed measures such as allowing early-morning delivery by large discount stores. The Distribution Industry Development Act imposes a "business hours restriction from midnight to 10 a.m." on large discount stores.

Jung emphasized, "In the process of discussing the rationalization of delivery regulations, it is very important to listen attentively to the voices of small business owners and to harmoniously embody the value of coexistence."

Jung went on to say, "The Special Act on Investment in the United States must be urgently handled by the National Assembly in order to protect companies that are trembling with anxiety over concerns about the reimposition of U.S. tariffs," adding, "The Democratic Party will adopt a resolution on the special committee for handling the special act at the plenary session tomorrow and will also swiftly push for the passage of the bill to remove uncertainty."

He continued, "The establishment of the Real Estate Supervisory Service is a core value and a promise of the Lee Jaemyung administration to eradicate crimes that disrupt market order," and added, "The party, the government, and the presidential office will engage in in-depth discussions on measures to root out real estate crimes and illegal acts and to restore transparency in the market."
