Reconstruction Finalized for Cheonghwa Apartment in Yongsan...To Become a Residential Complex with Hangang River and Namsan Views

The reconstruction of Cheonghwa Apartment in Yongsan-gu has been finalized.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 8th that it had convened the Urban Planning Committee and approved with amendments the "Cheonghwa Apartment Reconstruction Project Maintenance Plan Decision and Maintenance Zone Designation and Landscape Review Proposal."

Cheonghwa Apartment, an aging complex located on a slope in Itaewon-dong and completed in 1982, will be reborn as a residential complex of up to 21 stories with 679 apartment units.

This maintenance plan focuses on creating a residential environment that harmonizes with the natural landscapes of the Hangang River and Namsan.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that it formulated the plan by taking into account the linkage with large-scale development plans in the surrounding area, such as the Hannam-dong redevelopment promotion project, the United Nations Command site development project, and the Yongsan Park creation project, and by complying with height standards in the Hannam area.

In consideration of the fact that the site is located in hilly terrain, the buildings will be arranged along the topography to reduce the impact on the landscape. In addition, vertical pedestrian circulation routes and ramps for mobility-impaired pedestrians will be installed to secure user accessibility and ease of movement.

The plan also calls for concentrating neighborhood living facilities and open shared-use facilities along Bogwang-ro, the main thoroughfare in the Hannam and Itaewon area.

Choi Jinseok, Director General of Housing Policy at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, "Cheonghwa Apartment occupies a key location where the Hangang River and Namsan meet," adding, "We will provide multifaceted support so that a high-quality residential complex can be created to enhance the value of the city."
