Visit to Hanbok Sharing Market and Hanbok Exhibition
Lucky Pollack-Making Experience
Deputy presidential spokesperson Jeon Eunsu announced that First Lady Kim Hye Kyung, wife of President Lee Jaemyung, visited the Jeongdong 1928 Art Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, to attend the New Year’s reception for Hanbok professionals held in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
Before attending the reception, First Lady Kim toured a Hanbok sharing market and a Hanbok exhibition, and took part in a lucky pollack-making experience. The experience was made more meaningful by the participation of seven domestic and international influencers who love Hanbok. In the lucky pollack-making experience, participants wrapped a “lucky pollack,” which is believed to ward off misfortune and invite good fortune, with silk thread and then attached a keyring to complete the item. The program was very well received by participants.
Participants, including foreign influencers, helped promote the beauty and significance of Hanbok both at home and abroad through traditional accessory making and Hanbok experiences.
First Lady Kim then attended the Lunar New Year Hanbok New Year’s reception hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. At this reception, she was appointed “Honorary Ambassador for Hanbok” in recognition of her efforts to widely promote the value and beauty of Hanbok in Korea and around the world.
In her acceptance remarks, First Lady Kim said, “Hanbok is a precious cultural heritage that represents Korea and a core asset of K-culture,” adding, “The dedication and devotion of Hanbok professionals who have quietly made and studied Hanbok have created the Hanbok we see today.”
She went on to say, “I ask that we join forces so that our Hanbok can be loved by even more people around the world,” and added, “I, for my part, will devote myself even more to promoting the beauty of Hanbok.”
After a ceremony in which four senior figures in the Hanbok community handed over “connection boxes” to four emerging designers, First Lady Kim personally approached each Hanbok professional attending the reception to greet them, expressing her intention to continue activities for the “everyday wearing of Hanbok and the spread of Hanbok culture.”
One attendee said, “I hope that the First Lady’s efforts to widely promote a ‘Hanbok lifestyle’ culture will lead to achievements such as inscription on the UNESCO list,” expressing pride as both a Korean and a Hanbok professional.
First Lady Kim concluded her schedule in a warm atmosphere, exchanging greetings with many Hanbok professionals attending the reception and taking commemorative photos with them.
