"It Is True That U.S. And Chinese Capital Is Enormous... We Will Fight As Fiercely As With 12 Ships"
Hyun Dongjin, Head of the Robotics Lab at Hyundai Motor Group (Executive Director), stressed in his lecture at the Korea Employers Federation (KEF) Korea CEO Forum held on the 5th at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, that "we must provide consumers with robotics products at prices they can afford."

He went on to say, "We need to continue efforts such as sharing and standardizing robotics functions," adding, "When more people are able to enjoy products that are worth buying and worth using, robotics can increase its social impact and transform the industrial sector."
In fact, the price of X-ble Shoulder, a wearable shoulder-strength assist robot that Hyundai Motor Group has begun selling, is reported to be under 3 million won.
In addition, Hyun presented the direction pursued by the Robotics Lab by explaining the difference between autonomous driving in ordinary vehicles and autonomous driving in robots. He said, "Autonomous vehicles drive on public roads, but autonomous robots share our space, such as on sidewalks or between buildings," and explained, "Our goal is to realize convenient robot autonomy that even elderly grandmothers can enjoy."
He said, "As industries continue to evolve, I believe that people who operate the technology and create systems together will become more important than the technology itself," adding, "If we listen more to the voices of engineers and hold extensive discussions and debates accordingly, we will be able to build a technology-based yet warm society."
After the lecture, Hyun met with reporters and, in response to a question about competition with global companies in countries such as China and the United States, said, "We are competing fiercely and desperately, but I believe that the concern that we might fall behind is something that all research and development (R&D) must always remain alert to," adding, "It is true that the capital in the United States and China is enormous, so we will fight just as fiercely as Admiral Yi Sun-sin did with his 12 ships."
