"I Will Become a Responsible Governor Who Protects Residents' Lives"...Vows Certain Victory
Presenting a "Policy Vision" Instead of a Publication Event...Unveils Five Key Strategies
The Strength of Winning Two Legislative Grand Prizes..."I Will Pour All My Capabilities into Overcoming the Crisis"
Shin Euijun, a member of the Jeollanam-do Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Wando 2), has officially announced his candidacy for the next Wando County governor, kicking off his full-fledged election campaign.
Assemblyman Shin held a press conference at his office on the afternoon of the 5th and explained the background of his candidacy, saying, "Wando is currently facing a series of tough challenges that are shaking the lives of residents, such as the structural crisis in the fisheries industry, rapid population decline, and super-aging," and adding, "What we desperately need now is not flashy, showy politics, but 'responsible administration' that carefully protects the daily lives of county residents."

More than 1,000 supporters crowded into and around the office for the declaration of candidacy, creating a scene of bustling activity. This was seen as evidence of Assemblyman Shin's solid organizational power and support base, as he has recently been leading in various opinion polls, and the venue was filled with a fervor reminiscent of a campaign kickoff rally.
In particular, Shin drew attention by boldly skipping a publication commemoration event, a common move among politicians. He explained, "The abalone industry, which is currently our mainstay industry, has been in a prolonged slump, and fishermen are suffering double and triple hardships as seaweed and kelp continue to die off due to the effects of climate change," and added, "I judged that it would be inappropriate to hold events that place a financial burden on people at a time when county residents are struggling economically."
Instead, he chose a straightforward approach of creating a "forum for communication" that satisfies residents' right to know by explaining his policies and vision in detail. Confident that he is a "proven field expert" based on his 16 years of legislative experience - eight years as a county council member and eight years as a provincial council member - Shin announced a concrete blueprint for Wando's development titled the "Five Future Strategies for Wando for Grand Unity of County Residents."
The key strategies are: a major transformation of the fisheries value chain connecting production, distribution, processing, and export; a livelihood-stabilizing county administration that people can tangibly feel in areas such as energy, healthcare, and transportation; a population retention strategy that enables young people and families to stay; balanced development across all 12 towns and townships without neglect; and sustainable environmental and marine strategies to respond to the climate crisis.
He also fleshed out his "Ten Core Pledges" to improve the quality of life for residents. Assemblyman Shin appealed for support, promising to establish a fisheries price stabilization system that allows fishermen to receive fair prices; strengthen marine systems to respond to climate disasters such as high water temperatures and red tides; dramatically improve medical accessibility in island areas; implement policies to ease the burden of energy costs; expand settlement support packages for young people, returnees to fishing, and returnees to rural areas; and build a participatory county administration system in which residents are the true owners.
Assemblyman Shin stressed that he is a "prepared governor" based on the achievements of his legislative work. During his time in office, he succeeded in having the long-cherished regional project, the "Goheung-Wando Bridge and Link Road Project," incorporated into the national plan, and he has taken the lead in initiatives such as "improving aquaculture structures and supplementing disaster insurance systems" to protect the livelihood rights of fishermen.
In recognition of these policy achievements and efforts, he has twice received grand prizes: the "16th Excellent Legislative Activities Award" presented by the Council of Chairpersons of Metropolitan and Provincial Councils nationwide, and the Grand Prize at the "Korea Local Autonomy Evaluation Legislative Policy Vision Awards."
Assemblyman Shin Euijun stated, "For every problem in Wando, the answer has always been found in the field, not in a cold conference room," and declared, "I will pour all the experience and capabilities I have accumulated over the past 16 years as a county and provincial council member into becoming a 'responsible governor' who ensures that Wando's nature, sea, and the lives of its residents are shared fairly by everyone."
