Wildfires Occurring Across the Country, Emergency Water Supply in Some Regions Considered
Minister Yoon Hojoong: "Thorough Preparations and All-Out Response Efforts"
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on February 5 that it will urgently provide 3 billion won in Special Grants for Disaster and Safety Management (hereinafter referred to as special disaster grants) to 17 metropolitan and provincial governments nationwide to respond to wildfires and drought conditions.
This support was decided to strengthen on-site responses to wildfires and droughts, given that wildfires have recently been occurring one after another across the country and emergency water supply is being carried out in some island regions of Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeollanam-do.
The allocated special disaster grants will be used for wildfire prevention activities, such as monitoring, guidance, and public awareness campaigns, as well as for drought relief projects, including pipeline maintenance and the installation of small-scale seawater desalination facilities.
Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Hojoong urged, "Local governments should make every effort to take preemptive and thorough preparatory measures and respond one step ahead so that wildfires and droughts do not escalate into major disasters."
He added, "The government will spare no necessary support so that damage and inconvenience to the public caused by various disasters can be minimized."
