Presiding over the event titled "Dialogue with Future Scientists" at the State Guest House of the Blue House, President Lee made these remarks. He said, "Science and technology can be described as the very core of a nation's capabilities," and analyzed, "Looking back through history, systems that respected science and technology prospered, while eras that despised science and technology collapsed."

President Lee continued, "Only a society that respects science and technology, invests in science and technology, and properly recognizes scientists and engineers has a future," and assessed, "The Republic of Korea was once a country without natural resources or any special inherent strengths, but solely as a result of investing in education and investing in science and technology, it has become a nation recognized worldwide today."

He then urged, "The more intense the competition between countries becomes, the more a nation's fate is ultimately decided by how outstanding its people's capabilities are and how far they develop. I hope you will do your utmost with a sense of responsibility that the fate of the Republic of Korea rests in your hands."
