Jeju Province Offers Subsidies for Electric Bicycle Purchases

Subsidies of up to 500,000 won per person for about 180 residents

Jeju Province Offers Subsidies for Electric Bicycle Purchases Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Government Office Building

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will provide subsidies to residents for purchasing electric bicycles in order to achieve carbon neutrality by promoting bicycle use.

The Jeju Provincial Government announced that it will be accepting applications for the "2026 Electric Bicycle Purchase Subsidy Program" from the 4th until the 25th.

Eligible applicants are residents of Jeju Province who are at least 18 years old and have been registered as residents in Jeju for at least one year. The province plans to select and support approximately 180 people, and in order to boost the local economy, subsidies will be paid only for products purchased from bicycle retailers within the province.

The subsidy amount will vary depending on the purchase price. For products priced at 1 million won or more, up to 500,000 won will be provided, while for products priced below 1 million won, 50% of the purchase price will be subsidized. However, only pedal-assist system (PAS) models, in which the motor operates when the rider pedals, are eligible for support, and models with a combined throttle system and similar types are excluded.

Bicycles purchased with subsidies must go through a mandatory registration process. Selected residents must obtain a bicycle registration certificate and sticker from the community service center of their eup, myeon, or dong of residence and attach them to the bicycle. They must also comply with a mandatory one-year usage period from the date of purchase and submit proof of use (such as photos) a total of two times within that period.

Applications can be submitted by visiting the 15-Minute City Division at the Jeju Provincial Government Office in person, or via fax or email.

Hyun Juhyun, head of the 15-Minute City Promotion Team of Jeju Province, stated, "Electric bicycles are an eco-friendly means of transportation well suited to Jeju's topographical characteristics, which include many uphill sections," adding, "We expect this program to improve the convenience of daily travel for residents and help create a sustainable transportation environment."
